Jujo Thermal has introduced SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS 75 and SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS 100, novel heat-sealable and recyclable high barrier papers designed for sustainable food packaging. These advanced barrier papers offer a comprehensive solution for flexible packaging, combining heat sealability, printability, and recyclability to streamline the converting process.

Jujo Thermal expands the Shieldplus® product family with two new heat-sealable barrier papers

“SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS barrier papers are engineered for flexible food packaging applications, such as sachets and pouches that require heat sealability and barrier properties against moisture, grease, and aromas. The shelf appeal is ensured thanks to superior printing properties," said Masashi Okamoto, Director of Technical Development & Certified Packaging Professional at Jujo Thermal. "The products have been tested in collaboration with machine manufacturers to optimise their performance in printing and converting lines.”

SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS grades are recyclable, fibre-based alternative to traditional pouch packages that rely on barrier films made from plastics or aluminium. The barrier paper is composed of wood-based fibres coated with a water-based barrier and heat-seal coating, delivering a balanced combination of lightweight and high barrier performance. The grades have excellent barrier properties against oxygen, aromas, water vapour, greases, and mineral oils.

As with all SHIELDPLUS® products, SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS grades are safe for direct food contact with dry, moist, and fatty foods and is approved according to the BfR recommendations and FDA regulations. Suitable applications include a variety of food items such as tea, coffee, seeds, flakes, flour, grains, rice, baked goods, salty snacks, and ready meals. Furthermore, the new grades are compatible with flexographic, rotogravure, and digital printing methods.

Thanks to its wood fibre base, SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS grades are recyclable within standard paper recycling streams. The new products not only simplify the converting process for brand owners but also support the creation of recyclable packaging solutions throughout the value chain, contributing to the reduction of non-renewable raw material usage.
